Thousands of people are gathering at Sydney’s Darling Quarter to immerse themselves into an instillation created by Internationally renowned
Aboriginal Artist A.Professor Wayne Quilliam.
Insta-Culture, began as 16 large creations (each 2.4m x 2.4m) depicting Ocean, Land and Sky contextualising the six seasons of Aboriginal culture and the symmetry of connection to country. They have now become Iconic backdrops for children, families and international visitors to be photographed in front of.
“By creating a spiritually charged spatial-temporal vacuum, one’s work becomes a conceptual experience and is not defined by a singular creation or iteration. Observing thousands of people intertwining their culture into ours is the ultimate recognition our land and culture is highly valued and reflects on how we as sentient beings can co-existence.” said Wayne
Winner of NAIDOC Aboriginal Artist of the Year, Human Rights and Walkley Awards, Wayne has created, curated and shown more than 280 exhibitions throughout the world including Berlin, London, Cairo, Paris, Havana, Moscow, Vienna and Tokyo. Wayne recently returned from the United Nations in Geneva with his latest exhibition, a documentary on Indigenous Women’s Voices and will travel to New York in August to launch a new series of work.
Insta-Culture will be on display at Darling Quarter until the 3 August.
